Schomma® – Seminars

Small tricks, big effect

Magic in social action

The seminar is aimed at volunteers in the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ), the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD), the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ ) and similar commitments. Many of the participants work in daycare centers, nursing homes, hospitals or are committed to helping people with a migration background.

Contents & Goals

Contents:

The seminar teaches practical magic and deception techniques that can be used directly in everyday professional life. It is not about stage magic, but about simple, effective methods for directing attention, consciously using body language and safely controlling status situations. This creates clear, unifying moments when dealing with children, young people and adults.

In addition to practical skills, the seminar opens up a change of perspective. My personal, unconventional approach inspires you to question familiar ways of thinking and discover new ways of dealing with challenging situations. In addition to technical skills, this also promotes flexibility and self-confidence for everyday social situations.

Goals:

  • Basics of perception: understanding focus, timing, reaction
  • Everyday tricks – no stage, can be used immediately
  • Body language, directing attention, status game
  • Magic in everyday life: initiating improvised, connecting moments
  • Change of perspective: experience, reflect on and change your own role
  • Strengthen self-confidence: Experience impact, feel confidence
  • Context-specific application: daycare centers, care areas, hospital wards, people with a refugee background

Effect in everyday social life

  • Controlling perception through play
  • Magic tricks work because they attract attention. This principle can be transferred to everyday life: if you understand how attention is created, you can gain access more quickly, overcome barriers and build trust – verbally, non-verbally or depending on the situation.
  • Change of perspective as an experience
  • A change of perspective opens up new possibilities for action. My art-influenced yet down-to-earth approach inspires people to question familiar patterns and try out new approaches – especially in challenging social contexts.
  • Amazement as a unifying element
  • Amazement transcends language and cultural boundaries. A small creative gesture can build bridges between generations or people with different backgrounds.
  • Understanding and using status games
  • Social interaction is often characterized by role and status dynamics. Magic makes these visible: high status can generate clarity and respect, low status closeness and openness. Participants learn how to use both in a targeted manner.

Structure and procedure of the seminar

Interactive exercises alternate with demonstration, explanation and direct trial and error, so that participants can first observe the content presented, then apply it themselves, repeat and deepen individual steps in order to develop a firm understanding. After the lunch break, the techniques are taken up again, their application is deepened and the transfer to the participants’ own everyday work is systematically practiced through targeted exercises so that what they have learned can be directly understood and implemented.

Seminar leader

Jan Dober

I work as a magician and storyteller in the field of children's and youth theater. I work intensively with child psychology and social dynamics in order to use magic specifically as a means of communication and learning.

My seminars are particularly aimed at people who work in the social sector or are interested in it. I don't just teach magic tricks, but also provide practical ideas on how magic can help to boost self-confidence, overcome social barriers and open up new perspectives in everyday life.
